About This Mess

Unnatural Habitats is the ongoing art project of independent San Francisco–based artist Chris Matlich.

My work is inspired by the city that is my home, a deep love of nature, and the visual language of the underground music scene and skateboarding culture. My work often imagines oversized wildlife occupying recognizable urban environments — a metaphor for communities and subcultures reclaiming space in cities that often overlook them.

I believe art is powerful, and I welcome the opportunity to use my artwork to contribute positively to the community.

About The Brand

This brand is all about expression through visual art whether it's bonded to fabric or printed on stock. The focus is on limited-run poster artwork, and select apparel.

Striving to serve the best quality products and aligning with production partners that use responsible production practices.

  • Responsibly Sourced

Our apparel is produced by Bella+Canvas in Fair Labor Association–accredited facilities in the U.S. and Central America. All partner factories follow strict labor standards and are WRAP-certified, ensuring safe, legal, and responsible working conditions.

  • Premium Quality

We use premium Bella+Canvas shirts known for their soft feel, modern fit, a stylish side seam to keep a better shape over time. Labels are printed with no tag for extra comfort.

  • Eco-friendly Printing

Our print production partners (primarily in the US, Canada, and the UK) use eco-friendly water-based inks that are long lasting and soft to the touch.
